Mechanical Engineering NRW: Order intake weak again in July

In July 2022, new orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia were 16 percent lower than in the same month a year earlier. Demand from Germany fell by 19 percent, and from abroad by 15 percent. Orders received from the euro zone fell by 14 percent year-on-year and from the non-euro zone by 15 percent.

In the three-month period from May to July 2022, incoming orders fell by 9 percent year-on-year. Orders from Germany decreased by 10 percent and those from other countries by 8 percent. Orders from other European countries were down 3 percent year-on-year, and those from outside Europe were down 10 percent.

The July figures were also impacted by current events and the uncertainties they have triggered, as well as the weak economic situation worldwide. Many uncertainties are unsettling companies in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia and depressing investment activity. We are monitoring this development in demand at both national and international level.
