Mechanical engineering NRW: Customers outside the eurozone provide a ray of hope

Domestic demand was down 20% and incoming orders from abroad were up 28%. The eurozone contributed to this result with a decrease of 12% and the non-eurozone with an increase of 44%.

In the more meaningful three-month period from January 2024 to March 2024, incoming orders decreased by 3% compared to the previous year. Orders from Germany fell by 14% and 3% more orders were generated from abroad. Demand from the European region fell 12% short of the previous year’s level, while incoming orders from non-European countries increased by 9%.

Orders from non-European countries ensured a positive overall result in North Rhine-Westphalia’s mechanical and plant engineering sector in March, continuing the February trend. Orders from other European countries and domestic demand are still not gaining momentum. It is hoped that the global upturn in order activity will also reach these markets in the near future.
