The event offered participants the opportunity to learn about and exchange information on current developments in tax law.
On May 24, 2023, the spring event on current developments and changes in tax-related topics for the mechanical and plant engineering industry was held in Dortmund with VDMA tax experts Monika Weltin and Florian Schmidt. The event offered participants the opportunity to learn about current developments in tax law and to take part in an intensive exchange of experiences.
First, the participants were given a brief overview of tax policy activities at the federal level and discussed their impact on companies in the machinery and plant engineering sector. In connection with the reform of the external tax audit, changes were made in the area of transfer pricing. The most important changes, the legal basis and the general structure of transfer pricing documentation were explained and discussed.
Another topic was the handling of group accident insurance for payroll tax purposes. Various case groups of such insurance contracts and their handling for payroll tax purposes were discussed. In particular, insurance policies for employees in the field covering both business and private travel were dealt with. Employee secondment and the associated risks abroad were also discussed. As more and more companies allow mobile working abroad, complex challenges arise with regard to social insurance, payroll tax and corporate tax law.
In addition, participants received an update on trade tax and the current issues surrounding trade tax addition. It was shown what the collection procedure of the future will look like with the digital trade tax assessment.
The final item on the agenda was the (tax) accounting consequences of tax-based research funding. So far, there is little legal certainty regarding the accounting treatment of this funding. Reference was made here to the event of the VDMA tax department on June 22, 2023, in which the instrument of research promotion will be explained in detail.
The event provided participants with a comprehensive insight into current tax policy issues. The next exchange of experience on tax topics will take place on November 22, 2023.
