Incoming orders in North Rhine-Westphalia’s mechanical and plant engineering sector in September 2024 were 14% down on the previous year in real terms.
In September 2024, incoming orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia were 14% down on the previous year in real terms. Domestic orders recorded a drop of 19%. Orders from abroad fell by 12%. The eurozone contributed to this result with a decline of 9% and the non-eurozone with a decline of 13%.
In the more significant three-month period from July to September 2024, orders fell by 12% compared to the previous year. Domestic orders were 10% down on the previous year. Orders from abroad fell by 12%. Demand from the European region was 7% lower, while incoming orders from non-European countries fell by 14%.
A look at the first three quarters of 2024 shows that incoming orders fell 11% short of the previous year’s results. Domestic orders fell by 24% and orders from abroad by 4% in this period, with non-European countries contributing 3% and European countries 6%.
As expected, orders were also poor in September. The North Rhine-Westphalian mechanical and plant engineering sector continues to be burdened by the weak global economy and geopolitical challenges. We are currently assuming that the weak economy will continue into next year.
