In April 2024, incoming orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia exceeded the previous year’s figure by 22% in real terms. Demand from Germany recorded an increase of 11% and from abroad an increase of 27%. The eurozone contributed to this result with growth of 22% and the non-eurozone with 29%.
In the more significant three-month period from February to April 2024, orders increased by 9% compared to the previous year. Domestic orders fell by 8% and 18% more orders were generated from abroad. Demand from the European region fell short of the previous year’s level by 1%, while incoming orders from non-European countries increased by 25%.
Against the backdrop of a persistently difficult environment, we are pleased with the significant increase in incoming orders and hope that the downward trend has been halted. Both domestic business and demand from abroad have increased – all against the background that the good April result is partly due to a base effect.
