In July 2024, incoming orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia were 10 per cent down on the previous year. Domestic demand recorded a drop of 3 per cent. Orders from abroad fell by 14 per cent. The eurozone contributed to this result with a drop of 1 per cent and the non-eurozone with a decline of 20 per cent.
In the more meaningful three-month period from May to July 2024, orders fell by 20 per cent compared to the previous year. Domestic orders were 42 per cent down on the previous year. Orders from abroad fell by 5 per cent. Demand from Europe fell by 4 per cent compared to the same period last year, while incoming orders from non-European countries were 5 per cent lower.
The order situation remains difficult. There are no signs of a short-term improvement either in Germany or abroad.
