Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can often only develop new, innovative, sustainable and marketable products, services and processes in cooperation with other companies, universities and research institutions. The innovation competitions of the ERDF/JTF Program NRW 2021-2027 therefore primarily target collaborative projects of SMEs that are aligned in terms of content to one of the six innovation fields of the Regional Innovation Strategy of the state of NRW.

In the innovation field “Environmental Economy and Circular Economy”, the focus is on those starting points which, on the one hand, contribute to the development of environmentally protective, environmentally friendly and resource-efficient products and services and, on the other hand, make a contribution to sustainability and resource conservation through circular economy.

The GreenEconomy.IN.NRW innovation competition therefore supports small and medium-sized enterprises in making sustainable use of the ecological innovation potential of North Rhine-Westphalia as a business location. This is based on a broad understanding of innovation, which is intended to make both technical and non-technical potential visible and usable in the long term through cooperation between industry and science.

The focus is on projects that cover the entire value chain as well as projects that are developed in collaboration with universities and research institutes and look at a specific aspect or section of relevant value chains. All projects should demonstrate particular innovation and application potential and make a substantial contribution to the transformation of North Rhine-Westphalia toward a Green Economy.

The GreenEconomy.IN.NRW innovation competition is being implemented under the auspices of European regional funding (ERDF/JTF Program NRW 2021-2027) by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport (MUNV) in cooperation with the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIKE).
