Enabler and pioneer: mechanical engineering is shaping the transformation

Hardly any other term is as important for the present and the expected future as transformation. Change and transformation are not a new phenomenon for North Rhine-Westphalia with its many years of experience in structural change. Changes are often driven by technological advances, social upheavals or ecological requirements.

These changes influence economic activity in many different ways. Companies are developing new technologies, redesigning their business models and switching to sustainable practices. The goals are increased efficiency, improved competitiveness and new market opportunities. At the same time, transformations also bring challenges for companies that go hand in hand with the introduction and application of new processes. Overall, a successful transformation requires a combination of innovation, entrepreneurial courage and competitive framework conditions.

Mechanical and plant engineering plays a decisive role in the transformation process. Only with solutions from this sector can change be implemented sustainably. This opens up considerable opportunities for the sector to develop new business models. Mechanical engineering technologies could reduce up to 90 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in industrialized countries. However, the mechanical and plant engineering sector is also playing a key role in the development and implementation of automated systems in the field of automation and digitalization, which optimizes processes and saves resources and energy.

Series of events on transformation

In order to highlight the opportunities and business models of the transformation process in mechanical and plant engineering, ProduktionNRW is establishing the event series “Enablers and pioneers: Mechanical and plant engineering shapes the transformation”. The aim of the series is to position companies from the mechanical and plant engineering industry in North Rhine-Westphalia with their solutions and business models as a key sector in various transformation areas. In addition, other mechanical engineering companies and other companies along the value chain are encouraged to anticipate the opportunities of transformation for their own business model.

The series of events covers the following aspects of transformation:

  1. Opportunities of the circular economy for mechanical and plant engineering, event on June 5, 2024 in Dortmund
  2. 18.11.2024: Enabler and pioneer: How mechanical engineering is advancing carbon management
  3. Transformation topic hydrogen (in preparation)
  4. Transformation topic energy efficiency (in preparation)
  5. Transformation topic digitalization (in preparation)
