Mechanical engineering NRW: Very good end to the year

Order intake in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia was up 20 percent in December 2021, very significantly above the level of the same month in the previous year. Domestic demand rose by 18 percent, while demand from abroad increased by 21 percent. Orders received from the euro zone were up by 18 percent and from the non-euro zone by 23 percent.

In the three-month period from October to December 2021, incoming orders rose by 32 percent year-on-year. Orders from both Germany and abroad increased by 32 percent. Orders from other European countries climbed by 25 percent and from the non-euro area by 35 percent.

2021, the annual balance of incoming orders for the North Rhine-Westphalian mechanical and plant engineering sector is very positive at plus 37 percent. Domestic demand rose by 26 percent, while foreign business was up by as much as 42 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. Demand from the euro zone climbed by 36 percent and from the non-euro zone by 45 percent.

Fortunately, the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia again performed excellently in this year, which was again impacted by the corona pandemic. However, delivery bottlenecks and travel restrictions have resulted in a delta between orders received and orders on hand and sales.
