In August 2024, incoming orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia were 10% down on the previous year. Domestic demand recorded a drop of 7%. Orders from abroad were down 12%. The eurozone contributed to this result with a drop of 13% and the non-eurozone with a decline of 12%.
In the more significant three-month period from June to August 2024, orders fell by 12% compared to the previous year. Domestic orders were 6% down on the previous year. Orders from abroad fell by 14%. Demand from the European region remained unchanged compared to the previous year, while incoming orders from non-European countries were 21% lower.
Orders continue to be disappointing. There is still a lack of growth impetus. There are also no signs of a turnaround for the North Rhine-Westphalian mechanical and plant engineering sector in the second half of the year.
