In June 2025, incoming orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia were 4% higher than in the previous year.
Domestic demand fell by 14%, while incoming orders from abroad increased by 14%. The eurozone contributed to this result with a drop of 17% and the non-eurozone with an increase of 38%.
In the three-month comparison from April to June 2025, which is less affected by short-term fluctuations, there was no change in total incoming orders. Domestic orders fell by 2%, while there was no change in foreign business. Demand from the eurozone fell by 5%, while incoming orders from outside the eurozone increased by 3%.
A look at the first half of 2025 shows that incoming orders fell by 1% compared to the previous year. Domestic orders saw a change of plus 12%. The decline in orders from abroad amounted to 6%, with orders from eurozone countries increasing by 10% and orders from non-eurozone countries falling by 13%.
The first half of this year closed with a slight minus. The slight decline of 1% in orders is the result of rising demand from Germany and the eurozone, which cushioned the decline in orders from outside the eurozone. The drop in orders in the non-eurozone reflects the uncertainty that the ongoing customs dispute with the USA is causing among companies.
