Mechanical engineering NRW: Positive May despite continuing crises

Demand from Germany rose by 15 percent, while incoming orders from abroad increased by 10 percent. Orders received from the euro zone improved by 14 percent year-on-year and from the non-euro zone by 8 percent.

In the three-month period March to May 2022, incoming orders fell 6 percent year-on-year. Orders from the domestic market increased 2 percent and those from other countries decreased 9 percent. Orders from other European countries lost 9 percent and from outside Europe 10 percent.

The good figures for incoming orders are encouraging, but must be put in relation to the low level of incoming orders in the same month of the previous year. Irrespective of this, the disrupted supply chains, the slowdown in China and the effects of the war in Ukraine continue to make themselves clearly felt.
