Mechanical Engineering NRW: Excellent start to the year

Order intake in the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia in January 2022 was 37 percent up on the same month of the previous year. Demand from the domestic market rose by 20 percent. Orders received from abroad climbed by 46 percent, with orders received from the euro zone up 18 percent and from the non-euro zone up 58 percent.

In the three-month period November 2021 to January 2022, incoming orders rose by 35 percent year-on-year. Orders from the domestic market rose by 31 percent and those from abroad by 36 percent. Orders from other European countries climbed by 26 percent and from the non-euro area by 41 percent.

January got off to an excellent start for the mechanical and plant engineering sector in North Rhine-Westphalia. But in view of the latest geopolitical developments, this is only a snapshot that is of limited informative value for the further development of business. The effects of the war in Ukraine are an additional – and currently barely calculable – burdening factor for the globally networked mechanical engineering sector.
